Ko Rongomaiawhio he tipuna no Ngati Porou, he tungane no Huturangi i moe ki a Paikea. Rongomaiawhio is a tipuna of Ngati Porou, the brother of Huturangi who wed Paikea. Rongo – ko nga rongo tenei o te tangata, a-taringa, a-ihu, a-aha ake ranei. Rongo means to sense, hear, feel, and smell.   Awhio – ko nga mea enei e awhio, e taiawhio nei i a tatau. Ko te whainga matua o enei rauemi, he whakaora ano i nga taonga a ratau ma, ki a rangona i enei ra. Awhio is what is surrounding us, what is circling us.
